Arne Slot Asserts He Is Secure and Retains The Club's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Loss

The Liverpool head coach conceded that it was understandable for questions to be raised about his position after another convincing defeat versus the Dutch champions.

Liverpool suffered their ninth loss in twelve matches, marking the team's worst run after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.

They were taken apart by the Eredivisie title holders on a difficult evening at their home ground.

“I am feeling safe, I'm fine, I have got significant backing from above,” the coach stated.

“It's important to reverse this trend and get a victory naturally but if you are in a managerial role and struggling then it's typical that questions are asked.”

He added, “I am OK with my role. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a tough spot but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”

Conversations with The Board

When asked to elaborate on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach said:

“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful to the team and for me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me every single minute of the day to say they have faith in me.”

He added, “In the normal exchanges I perceive the confidence. However I haven’t spoken to them after this match yet so let’s see.”

Persistent Issues and Player Reaction

The manager lamented known shortcomings from his squad in their Champions League loss, specifically poor finishing and leaking goals.

Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the team's situation.

“I don’t have the answers. Honestly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everyone,” Jones said.

“It is not good enough. I don't have to wait to consider it. I’m past getting mad inside. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the vocabulary.”

He went on, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I've watched this club for years.”

“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Reds side going through a period of this nature with performances this poor.”

He finished, “However we still have that badge on our shirts. And as long as that badge is gone, we will always fight.”

“We will attempt to help the side return to where it needs to be, show everyone once more what Liverpool stands for and the reason it's called the best team in the planet.”

“However currently, we’re in the shit and we have to turn it around.”
