Iran Claims Assault on American Facility in Bahrain, Amid Regional Retaliatory Strikes.

Iran's military claims to have hit a US naval base in Manama, as the country executed missile attacks throughout the Middle East in response for a large-scale and continuing assault against it by the US and Israel.

Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an zone near the main base of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The scope of any destruction is unclear and the American officials has not commented.

Missile Defenses Activated

Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - each hosting American military installations - said they have engaged and destroyed missiles in their territorial skies.

In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry said it had successfully engaged several missiles apparently targeting the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest American base in the region.

Operation "Truthful Promise 4"

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) declared it was attacking US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the strikes on Iran initiated by the US and Israel on Saturday morning.

That preceding assault - initiated at around 06:15 GMT - has so far struck areas associated with the Iranian leadership, with President Trump calling on the Iranian people to revolt against the regime.

Regional Fallout

In Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israeli military said it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates stated that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"Emirati air defenses responded to the projectiles with notable success and destroyed a several projectiles," it added.

It said debris landed in a populated district in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some property damage and killing a civilian.

The United States Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
