Lautaro Martínez Double Keeps Inter in Pursuit of Frontrunners
Inter striker Lautaro Martínez netted a second-half double to earn his side a 2-0 victory at Pisa, ensuring the visitors very much engaged in the Serie A title race despite a less than convincing performance.
League Table Overview
Under manager Cristian Chivu, Inter currently are placed in third position in the standings with 27 points total, tied with second-placed Roma and only one point adrift of table-toppers Milan. In contrast, Pisa occupy the third bottom spot with 10 points.
Game Summary
Inter arrived in Tuscany looking to get back on track after suffering a derby defeat by Milan last weekend, followed by a Champions League defeat at Atlético Madrid. However, they were forced to fight all the way by newly-promoted Pisa. The home team generated plenty of chances, but a clinical Inter broke the deadlock in the 69th minute when Argentine Martínez smacked a one-time shot into the top of the net. The attacker then tapped in from point-blank seven minutes from time.
The team’s capacity to score even with pressure was decisive in securing the victory.
