Following a crucial victory at the Qatar Grand Prix, Max Verstappen has significantly narrowed the deficit in the driver's standings. Now sitting just a dozen points behind leader Lando Norris and in front of teammate his McLaren rival, the scene is set for a thrilling three-way title decider at the iconic Yas Marina Circuit.

Verstappen's most recent win was anything but straightforward. Although he delivered a superb drive for Red Bull, the race outcome was heavily influenced by a controversial strategic call from the McLaren team. "I'm looking forward to it, I'm eager to go there and fight for it," the driver said. "I go in there with just good vibes. I will give everything I can but at the same time, even without the title, I still know that I had an incredible season."

The incredible part of Verstappen's late-season charge truly astonishing is how far he has fought back. Following the Zandvoort round in August, he was a staggering 104 points behind the championship leader Oscar Piastri and had publicly written off his championship hopes.

The shift began with substantial performance updates introduced by his team at the Monza. Changes to the car's floor and aerodynamic package solved ongoing handling problems, allowing Verstappen to push to the limit with the chassis once more.

From then on, his performance has been completely spectacular, racking up five victories and multiple podiums. He was quick to credit the collective effort behind this resurgence.

"We have achieved victories where maybe we shouldn't have, through the correct decision as a team," he noted. "The way I work with my team on the pit wall and the every member... we are perfectly synchronized."

Ahead of the travel to Abu Dhabi, the championship picture is utterly compelling.

• Lando Norris is in position to win his first-ever world title if he outpaces both his two rivals or takes a top-three position.
