Mediated discussions aimed at reaching a lasting settlement on a US peace plan to end the war in Gaza have started in the Egyptian city of the negotiation site.

Palestinian and Egyptian officials have stated that the sessions are centered around "creating the field conditions" for a possible exchange that would result in the freeing of all captured Israelis in compensation of a group of incarcerated individuals.

The group stated it accepts the peace plan proposals to some extent, but has failed to address several essential conditions - such as its disarmament and political participation in Gaza.
