Shocking Unearthing: Remains of Vanished Mother and Child Located in Freezers in the Alpine Nation

The remains of a 34-year-old woman and her young daughter, 10 have been discovered inside freezing appliances in an residence in the western part of Austria.

The victims, a woman from Syria and her daughter, who had been unaccounted for for several months, were found on the end of last week. The freezers were placed behind a false wall in the dwelling, situated in the Innsbruck area.

A pair of males, a 55-year-old Austrian and his 53-year-old brother, were arrested in the month of June. The older man, a work associate of the female victim, informed law enforcement last week that there had been an accident—but disputed murder.

Yet when officers entered the victim's residence, her smartphone was found.

Someone also reported hearing a disturbing sound in the apartment, and shouts of "mother" on the day the pair were believed to have vanished.

An expanded official inquiry was launched, with authorities finding various messages sent from the woman's phone—including a notice of quitting to her workplace and communications to the male associate.

Authorities said a four-figure sum was also sent to the individual.

Katja Tersch informed the press on recently that a rented space had been rented out before the mother and child went missing and a freezing appliance had been installed within.

The brothers extracted the appliance from the unit on the very day the woman and her child vanished, the official revealed. And a seven days after, they acquired a second unit.

Authorities say they think this points to the fatalities were premeditated.

"The reason for their demise remains unclear due to the advanced decay of the bodies," Tersch stated.

Mayr—representing the state—noted the exact sequence of events is yet to be determined, but the remains were professionally hidden and were not found during a previous house search.

While the brothers were arrested in the summer, it was only on the 12th of November that the elder brother confessed to an event and to hiding the bodies. He rejects any plan to cause death, authorities confirmed.

At the same time, his brother confessed to a cover-up but rejected knowledge of a killing.

The pair are at this time in pre-trial detention in jails in Innsbruck and Salzburg, around 117 miles (189km) apart.

Through a combined announcement, the nation's official for women's affairs and Justice Minister said the "suspected killing of two... symbolizes the abrupt and violent termination of two individuals and uncovers a heartless setup".

"Female individuals are falling victim to homicide due to the sole reason that they are female," they added.
