The Blue Jays Earn World Series Matchup With the Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

The outfielder was instrumental for the Houston Astros securing the World Series in the 2017 season.

Toronto's Blue Jays advanced to their initial Fall Classic after the 1993 season by defeating the Mariners in the final Game 7 of the AL Championship Series.

Down three runs to one, Springer delivered a three-run homer in the seventh inning, leading the only Canadian franchise in the majors to a 4-3 triumph in the best-of-seven series. They will now face the defending champions, who are the current crown, in the forthcoming Fall Classic.

"I'm just so happy for our team, Toronto, Canada," commented Springer, a star of the Astros team that claimed the 2017 World Series. "It's truly an incredible feeling."

The veteran has now connected for twenty-three playoff homers, ranking him third all-time behind Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Altuve (twenty-seven).

"There's probably not another person in the world that I'd choose in that moment other than Springer with his October magic," said Schneider.

The Mariners, who had led the series two games to none and three games to two, remain the only MLB franchise never to appear in a World Series.

Wilson commented "without a doubt that it's going to sting" in the wake of his team's loss at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but commended their work in the campaign.

"They're an exceptional squad. It's a shame that we ended up on the losing end of this one," he continued.

Toronto's team claimed the championship on each of their earlier trips in the early 90s, and will host the Dodgers in the opener on Friday.
