These remarks addressed earlier comments about providing long-range missiles to the Ukrainian military.

An ex- US state department official, a foreign policy expert, observed, "Putin is attempting to disrupt the momentum toward greater sanctions on Russia." Fried continued, "We'll see tomorrow, but the chances of achieving a ceasefire by pressuring Moscow to get serious appear to have decreased."

The situation came after the US president had in recent days been hardening his rhetoric toward Moscow until Thursday's call with Putin, which the Russian government described as "extremely frank and trustful."

EU Fuel Sanctions and Economic Effects

EU authorities have established a requirement for fuel importers into the European Union to prove their products are not made from Russian crude, as stated in a official guideline released on recently. This measure is included in the EU's upcoming prohibition on purchases of fuels processed from Russian petroleum, which forms part of its latest sanctions package against Russia over its war in Ukraine.

Security Developments and Energy Attacks

A large-scale Moscow's drone and missile attack hit gas facilities in Ukraine's eastern regions on Thursday, causing disruptions in eight areas. Authorities in Ukraine reported that Russian forces launched numerous of unmanned vehicles and many of missiles, along with aerial munitions.

"During this fall, the Russians use daily opportunities to strike at our energy infrastructure," said Volodymyr Zelenskyy, noting that attacks impacted the regions of northern Ukraine, Kharkiv, Poltava, Sumy and western Ukraine.
